The idea of the establishment of Mary Mother of Good Counsel School was mooted by Christ the King Parish. It came about as a result of the need to create opportunity to ease the overwhelming pressure for admission on the Christ the King School After series of consultations among the then Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. Dominic Kodwo Andoh, Msgr Stephen Adu- Kwaning and the then Christ the King Pastoral Council, the then retiring headmistress of Christ the King School, Mrs. Patricia Quaidoo was recruited as a consultant to superintend over the opening of the School. Sr. Mary Consolata Agyapong, HDR the then Superior General of the Sisters of the Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer of Accra (HDR) was consulted to give a Sister to be on the staff. Sr. Elizabeth Paula Nkansah Otchere, HDR, was presented to the then Archbishop of Accra Most Rev. Dominic Kodwo Andoh, and the proprietor who appointed her the first headteacher of Mary Mother of Good Counsel School.
The two were ably supported by Mrs. Christiana Adofo-Agyakwa. Miss Henrietta Clarke and Miss Hannah Tackie began the Mary Mother of Good Counsel School on 15th September, 1998. There were two kindergarten classes of 49 pupils comprising 20 boys and 29 girls.
The School has been run by head teachers namely Sr. Elizabeth Paula Nkansah Otchere (HDR), Sr. Patricia Asante (HDR), Sr. Lucy Dope Sasu (HDR) and presently being headed by Sr. Francisca Asiedua Appiah (HDR). The assistant head teachers have been Mrs. Christiana Adofo, Mrs. Veronica Melfah Laryea, Mrs. Vincentia Nyoagbe and Mr. Emmanuel Dzregah.
We cast our minds back to our tender beginnings and we cannot help but applaud the pioneers whose unrelenting support and drive have become the springboard upon which we have been thrust into greatness today.
Past products of the School are spread in various sectors of the economy across the globe. Others are in renowned learning institutions. Our institution is certainly not in the early years of its working life. This is because for the past twenty-five years, we have been constantly working to ensure that the vision of our founding fathers continues to endure.
